Flood Risk Zoning Using Geographical Information System Case Study: Khorramabad Flood in April 2019

Today, there are varieties of methods for determining the risk flooding in different areas a catchment. However, use GIS-based weighting is receiving increasing attention among researchers. In early 2019, severe and continuous floods occurred some provinces Iran. Khorramabad was one cities most affected by floods. Regrettably, during construction development city, minimum distance from roads violated. this study, flood risks area were zoned using GIS-weighted overlay algorithm. Flood zoning done based on various maps indicating factors such as rainfall, waterway, soil composition, waterway density, slope, permeability, land use, vegetation. The then parceled into six categories with return periods 10, 30, 50 years. As result, city divided three critical terms risk. results indicate that confluence Karganeh Khorram–Rud rivers lacks sufficient capacity to withstand repel will suffer damage future
